Iatrogenic, diffuse lens pitting during Nd:YAG capsulotomy

Abstract

A 70-year-old man presented at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Rohtak, with a complaint of sudden-onset, painless diminution of vision. He had undergone right eye cataract surgery 2 years previously. He was diagnosed with posterior capsular opacification in the same eye at another institution, where he underwent Nd:YAG capsulotomy 15 days prior to presenting at our clinic; diminution of vision began immediately after the procedure. On examination, visual acuity in the right eye was counting fingers at 1 m; visual loss was more pronounced during the day. Slit-lamp examination revealed central intraocular lens (IOL) pitting. The fundus could not be assessed, and the eye was otherwise silent. IOL exchange was planned.
