High-grade giant cell glioblastoma involving the occipito-parietal lobe

Abstract

A young Malay woman, 16 years of age, presented at the University of Malaya Medical Centre with bilateral, progressive painless vision loss of 1 week’s duration. Fundus examination showed bilateral optic disc edema, dilated and tortuous venules, hard exudates and retinal hemorrhages at the posterior pole, and exudates within Henle’s fibers—macula star. Magnetic resonance imaging (not shown) of the brain revealed a complex, solid, cystic mass in the right occipito-parietal region, with mass effect and ipsilateral hydrocephalus. Right occipito-parietal craniotomy and tumor excision were performed. Histopathology confirmed high-grade (IV) giant cell glioblastoma.
